My poor dad arrived home from Australia this morning to be faced with burst pipes. The whole house is a mess. It seems to have burst in the loft and been filling up before washing away the ceilings below. I think most of their furniture as well as the walls and ceilings will need replaced. I have never seen anything like it.
It will be a long day tomorrow, after the insurer has been we can see what can be salvaged. We havn't told my mum, she is still in Oz. I feel terrible, I should have checked the house more often.

What a thing to have come home to - I imagine its happened to many people up here during this cold weather.
ReplyDeleteOh no Susan, what a terrible thing to have happened to your parent's house. Don't be hard on yourself as water can cause a great deal of damage in a short space of time and for all you know it could have happened the day your dad came home.
ReplyDeleteTry not to beat yourself up. These things happen so quickly that you wouldn't have had a chance to catch it. At least you and your Dad can get the worst sorted before your Mum arrives home. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSusan the weather we have had has been unusually bad...Don't give yourself a hard time...one of my pals had it happen last year whilst she was there and it was so quick she could only put out buckets and still had a lot of damage. If they're insured they should be covered for all the damage and repair...it's just a pain in the arse to get sorted. At least they're both ok...and that's the main thing...other items can be replaced.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely offer them your spare room - think how cosy it would be...lol...x
